week 6-#13

This is a photo of a visiting author at my library two years ago. Just practicing with photos.

Got myself a del.icio.us account. I'm really into this tagging idea and have been spending lots of time tagging and organizing my photos on flickr. I really hope to use the camera and photos a lot this year. My library software program is going web based so I forsee many opportunities to show books and kids in action!

Again, wandering around del.icio.us, there is SO much to discover and learn. Not to mention my list of user names and passwords which growing exponentionally. I haven't spent much time lately checking other peoples blogs which when I do is extremely interesting and comforting.

I'm off to London for two weeks for a cousins wedding, so I'll be a bit behind. I'd hoped to finish before the start of school, but with new software to learn, books to catalog and furniture to be rearranged, it's not likely. But finish I will!

week 5 #12 again

I love the idea of Rollyo. I'm finding it a bit time consuming (I say that too much) but see a possible future working with teachers to set up themed searches. I'm really enjoying learning about all this stuff! Makes me feel a bit ahead of the game (for a while anyway)

I tried over and over and over to link my LibraryThing to my blog, when a light went on! It must be my browser (Safari). So I downloaded Firefox and it worked brilliantly, just as it was supposed to! Yay!! I'll never use Safari again.

I'm using Library thing to keep track of books I've read both personally and for work.

pheww, but i still can't....

So it the middle of my rant, my Safari up and quit! When I came back, all was where it should have been, but I still can't figure out how to add a LibraryThing link. I guess I'll wait til I'm at work on a PC.

AARGHH!!

I was trying to post the very cool little link to a random selection of books from my Library Thing. It was and is not clear to me how to do so. This is the point at which I begin to hate and despise new technology! to rail at my lack of understanding of it and why it isn't explained in terms I can understand!! So somehow my avatar picture, my profiele, and my previous post links have disappeared and it says' books', but what i expected to be there isn't there. it may have something to do with me using a mac, I honestly don't know. But the worst thing is I don't know where to go for help! I need a human!!!!

week 5 -#11

I've only been to one of the short list sites, but I was there on LibraryThing for AGES! Really fun. I've added 4 whole books to my library and posted a review of one. Put way too many tags on the books. I checked out some groups like the YA group, and a chilren's lit group. I hope I've added a friend in Nova Scotia! I'm not sure about applications in my school setting (215 kids K-8). Most everything I've looked at seems to fit more with 4th and up I think. I'd love suggestions from you who have found things that work!

week 4 - thing #9

Well it seems i overlooked poor thing nine. I'm at work today at a pc and this window looks different thatn the window at home on my mac. hmm....

Anyway, I've stumbled (and it really feels like stumbling) on a couple of feeds to blogs that seem relevant.
http://vvmsmedia.edublogs.org/about/ This is a blog from valley view Middle School, somewhere USA. I like the format of it. Book blurbs/reviews accompanied by an image of the cover, and organized by categories. I'd like to do this with my middle schoolers. Maybe on a Wiki, but I'm not there yet.

http://thencbla.blogspot.com/2007/06/american-library-association-washington.html this is probably obvious to everyone, but I didn't know about it so maybe there are others like me. Included are links to other blogs.

I also just discovered the "Weekly Tips" pretty darn helpful!

week 5 - #10

This is from Image Chef, which was much more user friendly to me that either flickr toys or comic strip generator.

week 4 -#8

I now have an account at bloglines. This seems like a super fantastic tool, and the email option is one I'm going to take advantage of. I subscribe to too many newsletters and they do clutter my personal inbox. I haven't checked it out yet, but am thinking that having feeds to teen reading sites and certain authors sites will be fun for the kids,

week 3 - #7

All this action has got me wanting to build a personal website. I've beek checking domain names at www.checkdomain.com which is really fun. I've also been looking at various hosting options that can include web building templates and such. I still find this very confusing. I did learn what the different extentions (.com, .biz, .org etc) mean which is helpful. Then there is www.webmonkey.com where you can learn all about web building and html etc. If only I could come up with a name I really liked.....
